Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Card Unlocked ("CardUnlocked," "we," "us," or "our") and govern your use of cardunlocked.com and our related services (the "Service"). Please read them carefully. We wrote them in plain language so they are easy to follow.


1. Acceptance of these Terms

By creating an account, subscribing, or otherwise using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of a household or another person, you confirm you are allowed to do so. You must be at least 18 years old to use the Service.


2. What the Service does

CardUnlocked helps you understand the value of credit card benefits you already have and may not be using. We call the gap between what you pay in annual fees and what you actually use "the Gap." Based on the cards you select and the information you provide, the Service shows you your Gap, a personalized action plan, renewal advice, a benefit calendar, and other insights. Premium adds features such as card recommendations and household tools.

The Service relies on a catalog of card benefit data and on the information you give us. We work hard to keep the catalog accurate, but card programs change often, and issuers control the actual terms of your cards. Always confirm benefits, fees, and terms directly with your card issuer before you act.


3. Your account

To use most of the Service, you create an account using your email address (sign-in and account management are handled by our provider, Clerk). You may also be able to sign in with Google. You are responsible for:

  • providing accurate information,
  • keeping your login credentials secure, and
  • everything that happens under your account.

Tell us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your permission. We are not responsible for losses caused by someone using your account if you did not keep your credentials secure.


4. Subscriptions, billing, and cancellation

Free and Premium. Much of the Service is free. Premium is a paid subscription that unlocks additional features.

Pricing. Premium is offered at $7 per month or $84 per year, as shown at checkout. We may change pricing in the future, but any change will not affect your current paid term, and we will tell you before your next renewal.

Payments. Payments are processed by Stripe. When you subscribe, you authorize us, through Stripe, to charge your chosen payment method for the plan you select.

Automatic renewal. Premium subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period (monthly or yearly, depending on your plan) at the then-current price, until you cancel. By subscribing, you agree to these automatic recurring charges.

How to cancel. You can cancel your Premium subscription at any time. When you cancel, your subscription stays active until the end of the period you already paid for, and it will not renew after that. You can cancel through your account settings or the billing portal we provide (which is powered by Stripe). If you have trouble canceling, contact us at privacy@cardunlocked.com and we will help.

Refunds. Except where required by law, payments are generally non-refundable, and canceling stops future charges rather than refunding the current period. If you believe you were charged in error, contact us at privacy@cardunlocked.com.


5. Acceptable use

We want the Service to stay useful and safe. You agree that you will not:

  • use the Service for any unlawful purpose or in violation of these Terms;
  • copy, scrape, resell, or redistribute our content, card catalog, or data except as the Service expressly allows;
  • try to break, overload, reverse engineer, or gain unauthorized access to the Service or its systems;
  • interfere with other users' use of the Service;
  • upload anything harmful, such as malware, or anything that infringes someone else's rights; or
  • misrepresent your identity or impersonate others.

We may suspend or end access for anyone who violates these rules.


6. Intellectual property

The Service, including its software, design, text, graphics, the card benefit catalog, and other content we provide, is owned by Card Unlocked or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. We grant you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the Service for your own personal use, subject to these Terms. We reserve all rights not expressly granted.

Card names, issuer names, and related marks belong to their respective owners. We reference them only to identify the cards and benefits we describe, and that reference does not imply any endorsement by, or affiliation with, those owners unless stated.

Anything you enter into the Service (such as your selected cards, usage answers, and spending estimates) remains yours. You grant us permission to use that information as needed to operate and improve the Service and to provide it to you, as described in our Privacy Policy.


7. Affiliate relationships

We earn money in two ways: Premium subscriptions, and affiliate commissions when some users apply for a card we recommend through an affiliate link. We may receive a commission if you are approved for a card after clicking one of these links, at no extra cost to you.

Affiliate relationships never influence how we value benefits or rank cards. Our valuations and recommendations are based on the benefit data and your inputs, not on which companies pay us. We disclose this so you can trust that what we show you is driven by your situation, not by our commissions.


CardUnlocked is an informational tool. It is not financial, tax, investment, or legal advice, and we are not your financial advisor, broker, or fiduciary.

The Gap figures, recommendations, renewal advice, and other outputs are estimates based on a benefit catalog and the information you provide. They depend on assumptions and on data that can be incomplete or out of date, and your actual results will differ. Card issuers control the real terms, fees, and benefits of your cards, and those can change at any time.

You are responsible for your own financial decisions. Before applying for, keeping, or canceling any card, or acting on anything you see in the Service, confirm the details with your card issuer and, where appropriate, consult a qualified professional. Do not rely on the Service as the sole basis for any financial decision.


9. Disclaimer of warranties

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all implied warranties, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or that the card data, valuations, or recommendations will be accurate, complete, or current. Any reliance you place on the Service is at your own risk.


10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent allowed by law:

  • We will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any lost profits, lost savings, lost data, or lost opportunities, arising out of or relating to your use of (or inability to use) the Service, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.
  • Our total liability to you for all claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred US dollars ($100).

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you. In that case, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law allows.


11. Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Card Unlocked and its officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, and reasonable costs (including legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.


12. Termination

You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. Deleting your account removes your data as described in our Privacy Policy.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service, in whole or in part, if you violate these Terms, if we are required to by law, or if we reasonably believe it is necessary to protect the Service or other users. If we terminate your account without cause and you have a paid subscription, we will refund any prepaid amount covering the period after termination, where required.

Sections that by their nature should survive termination (such as intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnification, and governing law) will continue to apply.


13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida and applicable United States federal law, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. You agree that any dispute relating to these Terms or the Service will be handled in the courts located in Florida, and you consent to their jurisdiction, except where the law gives you a non-waivable right to bring a claim elsewhere.


14. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Effective date" above and, where appropriate, give you additional notice. Your continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, please stop using the Service.


15. Other terms

  • Entire agreement. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between you and us regarding the Service.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, that is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
  • Severability. If any part of these Terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these Terms without our consent. We may transfer ours in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
